Overview The Baobab tree, Adansonia digitata, also known as the upside down tree and monkey bread tree, is native to sub-Saharan Africa and is one of the oldest trees on the planet. These trees reach heights of 5–25 meters and can have trunk diameters up to 7 meters. The versatile tree offers young leaves that can be eaten like spinach or dried for tea, and its fruit pulp is known for its nutritional value and pleasant pear-like flavor with a mildly acidic aftertaste.
