Overview
Panela is a traditional unrefined sweetener made from sugar cane, a perennial grass that is grown in the northern region of Peru, where locals will make panela (or raw cane sugar). It is made from freshly pressed sugarcane juice that is gently evaporated to preserve its natural molasses content. Raw cane sugar has considerably more B Vitamins than refined sugar, specifically B3, B5, B6.
